About Hypnosis
Hypnosis is one of the most important tools for change.
Though not a magic wand, hypnosis can be very effective in bringing about rapid and permanent changes in your behavior, your health and your life. Hypnosis is simply a non-conscious (not unconscious), focused, and relaxed form of concentration, creating a state of mind in which your sub-conscious mind is open to suggestions.
Hypnotherapy differs from the popular perceptions created by movies and stage hypnosis shows which portray hypnosis as a form of mind control or a vehicle for inducing people to 'cluck like a chicken'. Stage hypnosis is indeed a powerful demonstration of hypnosis at work, but it is strictly for entertainment. Hypnotherapists utilize these same powerful hypnotic techniques, but they direct them towards inducing positive life-changing behavior.
Common myths about hypnosis have us believing that during hypnosis we surrender our free will to, and are under the control of, the hypnotist, or that hypnosis puts subjects into an unconscious state, or that hypnosis causes amnesia. In reality, hypnosis creates a fully voluntary, heightened state of awareness and concentration; meaning the patient can end the hypnosis anytime, at will. Many people are surprised to discover that they heard and felt everything during their hypnotic session; many even doubt that they were hypnotized because they were so aware and never 'fell asleep', but the subconscious mind was receiving desired suggestions and making desired changes.
Actually, hypnosis is not about giving up control. On the contrary, it is about focusing your control on the change(s) you desire. Hypnosis, essentially opens a doorway to the subconscious mind which allows your mind to be open to suggestions from the therapist. These suggestions become effective because the conscious mind – the critical, judgmental, and analytical part of your mind – is out of the way (out of the way – but always supervising) and the subconscious is free to accept positive change.
Hypnosis can help you gain control over your behavior, your emotions, and even your physical well-being. It has been successfully used to stop smoking, lose weight, and improve confidence, along a plethora of other conditions. Many people who are sick have used hypnosis to improve their health, decrease their pain, slow or stop bleeding during surgery, and to more rapidly recover from surgery.
Each day brings new discoveries about the benefits of hypnosis. We at Change Now welcome your questions and any opportunity to utilize the power of hypnosis to help you Change Now.
